The Israeli occupation authority demolished 90 Palestinian homes in occupied Jerusalem since start of 2007 till 12th December, a report by the Israeli committee against house demolitions said.
The report noted that the Israeli settlements were increasing in eastern Jerusalem with municipal and government backing.
It said that the Palestinians were forced to build without permit because the (Jewish-
controlled) municipality in Jerusalem does not grant them permits. The Palestinians faced by lack of any place to live in are compelled to build without permit on their own lands, it pointed out.
The report said that the latest such demolition took place on Tuesday (11/12) were a family of 12 members were rendered homeless after their home was destroyed in the Old City of Jerusalem at the usual pretext of lack of permit. It added that the destruction progressed under strict security measures using manual tools due to the narrow location of the house that could not allow entry of municipality bulldozers.
One of the ICAHD activists, who attended the demolition act, said that two family members were arrested when they tried to get out some of their belongings from the house.
He added that near to the demolished house there was a synagogue built by the settlement movement Atirat Kohanim without permit but the municipality did not issue a demolition order against it.
