Acting PLC speaker Dr. Ahmed Bahar has lashed out at the IOA for extending the detention of MP Dr. Mariam Saleh for 18 days and for bringing her to court with both hands and feet shackled.
Bahar denounced the "savage" manner in which Saleh, the first female MP to be held in custody, was brought to court, noting that she was also forced to put on what looked like black sunglasses so as not to see anyone in court.
In a statement on the issue, the acting speaker said that this treatement aims at breaking Saleh's spirits, stressing that the occupation has always failed to achieve such goals..
The Israeli military prosecution had earlier ordered the detention of MP Khaled Tafesh, who was kidnapped on the same day (12/11/2007) along with Saleh, to six months administration detention, without trial or charge.
Lawyer Ahlam Al-
Tamimi, who visited the prisoners at Etzion detention jail, said that the IOA informed Tafesh of the decision.
The IOA is holding 50 Palestinian MPs and former ministers in its jails.
